At ZSG you can feed all the family…Including your vegetative offspring!

Since 2018 we’ve been working with Biopak to reduce our annual carbon footprint.

We’ve been moving away from single use plastic packaging in favour of choosing FSC™ certified, home compostable, responsibly sourced, and ethically manufactured packaging.

Feed Me Seymour! – Home Compositing For Hungry Plants

If you are an avid house plant collector or enjoy growing your own veggies and herbs, you know that just like us humans, plants get hungry!

Homemade, rich in nutrient compost or worm waste can be an excellent way to keep your plants happy and healthy and it doesn’t cost the earth like some of the shop bought feeds.

Once you’ve satisfied your hunger by eating our delicious, nutritious ZSG meals, chuck your packaging on the compost or feed it to your wiggly friends and voila!

You can home compost – Our paper bags + straws, birchwood cutlery, bagasse chip boxes, pita boxes, salad bowls and Spartan bowls.

Good food, good health for you and your plants!

Small Changes With Biopak, Makes A Big Difference..

Foodservice contributes a LOT of waste to landfill annually. We want to do our absolute best to ensure we are taking steps forward and to not be part of the problem.

Making the switch from plastic/unconsidered packaging to Biopak sugarcane bagasse and FSC™ certified paper + birchwood means we’re partnering with the global leaders in compostable packaging. Responsibly sourced, ethically manufactured bowls, boxes, cutlery, straws and bags.

Our small switch to Biopak packaging, mades a big positive impact. In the last few years, Zeus Street Greek has avoided more than 150 kg of plastic, offset 382,334 kg of carbon and planted or rescued over 75 trees.

So What Is Sugarcane Bagasse?

Bagasse, otherwise known as sugarcane pulp, is a by-product of the sugarcane industry. It’s the fibrous substance that’s left behind after the juice of the sugarcane plant is harvested.

Up until recently, bagasse was often disposed of or left to rot. But today, it’s used as a renewable resource to produce paper products and as a fuel for factories.

Being made from fast growing sugarcane pulp, it can reduce the need to cut down trees and slow deforestation. During the growth of the sugar cane, atmospheric carbon is captured by the plant and converted to biomasse. How cool are plants!!!

Our bagasse packaging with no added PFAS* is certified home compostable to Australian (AS5810) and European Standards (NF T51-800) and certified industrially compostable to Australian (AS4736) and European Standards (EN13432). This means it’ll biodegrade in 30-90 days in composting conditions, leaving behind no toxic residue and creating nutrient-rich compost.

What Does It Mean To Be FSC™ Certified?

The Forest Stewardship Council – otherwise known as the FSC™ – a non-profit organisation that acts to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.

The Earth loses 18.7 million acres of forests per year, which is equal to 27 soccer fields every minute (source). Continuing at this rate could have devastating environmental and social impacts. It’s the FSC™’s mission to highlight the dangers of poor forestry practices and grow the demand for sustainably sourced products and suppliers.

These legends at FSC™ are a force for the forests! They make sure the forests aren’t being irreparably damaged in the process of manufacturing paper and wooden products.

Amazing! What About The Plastic Lids and Dip Containers?

Any remaining plastic packaging you do currently see at ZSG is made from PLA.

PLA is considered the environmentally responsible plastic being that it’s made from renewable biomass, it’s industrially compostable, has a lower carbon footprint and can be recycled. It does still have some environmental disadvantages and it can’t be composted at home. This is an area of opportunity for us to do better…

Growing Our Responsibility And Your Plants!

With technology changing rapidly, we are working closely with our friends at Biopak to continue to source home compostable products that keep our food contained and fresh when it arrives with you.

We want to move to being 100% plastic free including PLA as soon as possible and are making moves to always do better. Watch this space!
