WHAT IS RSPCA APPROVED?
The RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme is Australia’s leading independent certification program and was developed as one of the ways that the RSPCA can drive better animal welfare standards on farms.
The requirements that farms must meet to gain certification are designed to provide a higher-welfare environment and standard of care for animals that goes well beyond what’s legally required.
Standards are regularly reviewed to make sure they are progressively evolving and continuing to incorporate relevant animal science and innovations in farming.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO USE RSPCA APPROVED CHICKEN?
Using RSPCA Approved chicken means we value sourcing from producers that care about animal welfare and are working to a future of higher welfare farming in Australia.
The farms we source from have undergone a rigorous, independent certification process, including traceability of ingredient from restaurant, right back to the farm.
WHAT ARE THE FARM REQUIREMENTS?
As an evidence-based organisation, the RSPCA acts upon the science that says animals benefit from being encouraged to express natural behaviours. To have a good quality of life, animals need to have their nutritional, environmental, health and behavioural needs catered for as well as having a good mental state which is drawn from positive experiences. There are over 300 requirements that farmers must meet to gain RSPCA Approved certification.
HOW DOES THE RSPCA ENSURE THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET?
Farms with RSPCA Approved certification undergo robust assessment from specially trained RSPCA assessors regularly (2-4 times per year) to ensure requirements within the standard are continuously met. Abattoirs are also assessed annually.
The Assessors are part of the RSPCA Australia Certification Body, which whilst withing the RSPCA Approved business unit, operate independently and impartially from the organisation to ensure assessment and certification decisions are made without bias.

Whilst there is limited scientific evidence to say that if you eat a bird that was raised in a more positive environment you’ll physically reap the benefits, we believe that positive energy knows no boundaries and spreads like tzatziki on pita!
